LeGrand Captures B Tournament Title in County Meet
LeGrand high school baseball won the county tournament title defeating Gilman 8 to 2 in the opener. Specht homered and doubled as Leech pitched well, then Leech and Kouba shared mound duties in a pitching duel with Laurel’s Louks as Green Mountain fell behind. LeGrand finally pulled out the day with a 13 hit effort and a tense 10th inning lead, backed by strong infield defense and Specht’s catching. Mrs. Callie Dimmitt visited relatives in Newton Sunday. The LeGrand Garden club met in regular session Monday evening at the C. T. Tweet Bee hall. After business Mary Ellen Sanders led two contests, G C Ogier winning for identifying ads with article and manufacturer removed, and B H Beane winning a drawing contest for a flower or vegetable. Next meeting is May 27 at Mr. and Mrs. L C Knudson.

Coppock couple endure heavy snow on winter trip
From California to Iowa Mr and Mrs Walter Coppock spent winter in Whittier California and arrived in Marshalltown Saturday night then Dillon after five days on the road. They faced about 20 inches of snow near Laramie delaying travel until snowplows cleared the trails. They followed a route south through Denver then east. The Coppocks will spend spring and summer on the Coppock farm on Quaker Lane.

Lloyd Hodges, a lineman for Iowa Electric Light and Power, fell from a transformer at the Quarry sub-station Tuesday morning. He suffered a dislocated shoulder and facial scratches, was briefly unconscious, and was taken to the county hospital after Dr. Mills rendered first aid. No burns occurred and the current had been shut off.
