Charles Lamb Called to Reward in Le Grand

Charles Elsworth Lamb of Le Grand died at 12 55 p m Saturday at St Thomas hospital in Marshalltown after a five year heart illness. Born September 28 1877 in Garwin he married Bertha Peters in Eldora March 22 1899. Survived by widow three sons and four daughters, plus siblings and grandchildren. funeral at Estes funeral home Tuesday led by Rev Floyd Hinshaw. Burial at Steamboat Rock cemetery. Pallbearers named.

Local Garden Club and a Patchwork of News

The Garden Club meets next Monday at 8 p.m. at the Linn Knudson home. Pvt Edwin Humphrey of Longport NJ arrives Saturday for a 15 day furlough. Max Duncan heads to New Orleans for about two weeks visiting relatives. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Clifford Huffaker of LeGrand at St Thomas hospital in Marshalltown. Various local visits and travels are noted including Des Moines resident Luther Rhodes heading to army duty. Rev A A Richards reports the birth of a grandson Lynn Richards Jr in Sumpter SC dated April 19. A note about Helen Pendarvis economics teacher and Mrs Edith Kyle, plus Sunday visits to Gaunt home. Oscar Rhodes leaves for Appleton WI to join the baseball tryouts. W W Flickinger notes parks and reserves ready for 1942 season with good roads, facilities and early spring wildlife observations.

Literary and Musical Club Holds All Day Meeting

The Literary and Musical Club met Tuesday April 28 at Mrs Herman Walken's home. A covered dish lunch was served at noon. Officers elected for the year include President Mrs C B Adair Vice President Mrs John Rylander Secretary Mrs Rosa Richards and Treasurer Mrs L C Blodgett. Reports on the county convention at State Center were made by Mrs Rosa Richards and Mrs Helen Dillon. The annual picnic is set for June 3 at 6 30 p m at the home of Mrs Herman Wolken.

Missionary Circle Hosts Parish Meeting and Program

Missionary society of the Christian church met last Friday afternoon at Rosa Richards’ home. Program included songs Onward Christian Soldiers and Tis so Sweet to Trust, scripture Matt 25, prayers, and discussion. Grace Ray led articles from Literary Digest and The Upper Room work in China. Mrs R Piper Died at Deaconess Hospital

Mrs R Piper died Thursday morning at Deaconess hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 o clock Sunday at the Christian church in LeGrand conducted by Rev. P E Shult of Ankeny assisted by other pastors of Marshalltown.

Sugar Rationing Registration Set for May Days

A school is set to register sugar ration books May 4 to 7 at the local building with 18 plus as the applicant, family cap 6 pounds per person, and excess 2 pounds triggers loss of stamps. Violations carry up to 10 years imprisonment or a $10,000 fine. The notice lists alphabetic registration blocks and schedules, plus notes about other posted items and school activities.
