The LeGrand Hatchery owned by Bigelow and Rank operates two electric incubators with a 35 000 capacity, hatching about 4000 chicks daily and 72 000 this season. Turkey incubation and a street gravel project near the hatchery signal town improvements. Mrs Bigelow directs daily operations while Loren Bank renovates the Flora Pyle place nearby.

Death of Irvin Jones in Artesia California
Irvin Jones a former LeGrand resident died February 22 in Artesia California. Born in Miami County Ohio, he was a son of Hiram and Syrena Jones. He lived many years in Chadron Nebraska and more recently in California. His mother and the writer's mother were sisters. He resided in LeGrand a couple of years where his first wife died and is buried in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Fire on Earl Simms Home Roof Quelled Quickly
A small blaze appeared on the roof of Earl Simms' home Monday forenoon. Mrs. J. F. Smaha raised the alarm, central called, and volunteers with buckets and ladders quickly quenched the flames. Little damage resulted.

Melbourne gains state highway status as No. 285 extending 24 miles from Main Street west to a graveled south road toward State Center. The state commission plans grading this year and paving later, aiming to place towns of 150 population on a primary highway.
