Lloyd Bell formerly of LeGrand now in Marshalltown returned home last Saturday night and spent Monday greeting old friends. Enlisted December 1, 1917, trained in the U S camps, shipped June 28, 1918 aboard Mauretan, landed in Liverpool then La Havre before serving in Tours with aviation units. did not see front line action and found the trip worthwhile yet behind the times.

DeFrance drafted 1917 married before Camp Dodge April sent to Camp Cody December 1918 embarked from New Jersey. A week before the birth he warned of sailing and later letters failed to reach him. He learned of his wife’s fate from a comrade aboard the firing line and was hospitalized. He hopes to live to see his darling boy.
