Charles City forms an efficiency club for boys and nearby farms with garden, poultry, baby pork, and crop clubs. Under the M. C. supervision and state agricultural college extension, contestants will manage gardens, keep time and profit records, and be inspected regularly with prizes awarded later in the year.
Humboldt Men s Get Together club held its annual banquet with Rev Howland Hanson of Des Moines as principal speaker on The New Meaning of Old Glory Frank Gotch was elected president for the ensuing year and J N Clark named secretary
Le Mats-Hans Howall, a 50 year old grocery store operator in Hinton, died after taking strychnine in a despondent act prompted by illness. He told his wife he would see a doctor but instead bought poison at a drug store and died shortly after at home.
The Iowa Baptist convention of extension under BPU of Des Moines will be held March 28 to 25 at Des Moines College. Dr. W. E. Chambers will be a speaker and Miss Meme Brockway of Philadelphia will have a large part on the program but is prevented.
Mrs. C. J. Lundberg of Fraser dies from burns received while trying to kindle a fire. Her shawl caught fire and she could not extinguish the flames before severe burns proved fatal. She was 67 years old.
W H Johnson of Aurelia sells a large shipment of popcorn totaling 80 000 rounds. The top grade popcorn scores 24 points while his lot graded 23. The sale marks a rare and notable business event in the local popcorn trade.
The Smart and Co. general merchandise store was totally destroyed by fire. The office in the building also burned. Stock loss is estimated at 10,000 dollars.
Clarence Smith, jailed on forgery charges and sentenced by Judge H E Pry to fifteen years in the reformatory, committed suicide by drinking two disinfectants. The district court action preceded his death by poison.

Grundy Center sellers Williamson and Willoughby moved a 9 acre tract near Cylinder, Iowa, to Mr. Wilson of Estherville for roughly 100000, realizing about 30 dollars per acre gain in under two years.
At a business meeting of the New Hampton Poultry Association officers were elected President T. B. Condon, Secretary C. B. Philips, Treasurer Tim Canavan. Directors include A. H. H. Honeyman, S. T. Whalen, J. C. Mueller, W. H. Z. Babcack, and D. W. Davison. Superintendents named John Lew Schnurr and Kemman Lewis.
Adele Hog cholera has been put under control in Dallas county through efforts of the United States Department of Agriculture and state authorities. Loss from the disease dropped to 3.1 percent in 1914, down from 23.4 percent in 1912.
Elliott-Jacobh Gittins, a farmer, shot farm hand Joseph Woods after a quarrel. A rough fight led Gittins to take a shotgun. Woods was shot twice in the back. The incident is under investigation with no further details available.
Davenport Independent Brewing and Malting Company and Davenport Malting Company plan to relocate to Rock Island after the first of next year when the state goes dry. The firms employ about 400 men and own properties valued at roughly $1,000,000.
