Quarries Ramp Up Work as Rock Output Looms

The North western plant begins full preps for active operations with initial orders for 260000 tons of crushed rock. Highways plans to pave one thousand miles this season keep quarries busy while Roberts Brothers of Chicago arrange to start stripping in the south quarry. Expect more idle men in LeGrand as season advances.

Prominent educator McCracken to speak at LeGrand church

In LeGrand a notable educational figure arrives next Sunday. Dr. H L McCracken, president of Penn College Oskaloosa, will preach at the Friends church, with broad sympathies and leadership qualities. Literary and Musical Club Hosts in Marshalltown

Twenty members of the Literary and Musical club visited Marshalltown on Wednesday afternoon for an entertainment by the Woman's club at the Willard home. Drake University women provided a trio with a soloist, and light refreshments followed. The group returned around 5 p.m. happy with the afternoon. Mr and Mrs Chas Harvey traveled to Searsboro to see Eliza Jane Davis who is seriously ill after a fall causing a broken hip. Joseph R Caputo of Quarry, a student at Iowa State College Ames, placed second in a sheep judging contest among seventy eight sophomores and helped the Iowa State debating team against Grinnell in late February.
