Dedication of LeGrand School Building

LeGrand held the dedication of its consolidated school building despite poor country roads that reduced attendance. County Superintendent C. E. Schutt, architect W. L. Pedicord, Prof. G. W. Sampson, and Rev. L. E. Follansbee spoke, with Prof. Sampson delivering the principal address and the high school orchestra providing music. The article describes the building’s layout, materials, and equipment, and notes a memorial to Clark G. Bowen, Class of 1912.

Farewell Shower for Quarry Couple at Caputo Home

A farewell party honored Mr and Mrs Joba Caputo with a canopy reception and gifts for four daughters. Irish ballads and an Italian dance followed games and dancing. refreshments were served by local hosts. The couple plans a Saturday departure to a Melbourne farm, with several distant guests in attendance. Albert Rasmussen and Emily moved east of town to Christina Jossem farm. the Rowlinson family vacated the Weitzell place nearby.

Revival at Quarry As Harvey Heads Local Church

Rev. Guy W. Harvey leads revival meetings at Quarry with strong interest. He traveled from Bangor Quarterly to Albion on Feb 28 to support the church. Town Caucus Nominates Officials and Discusses Gymnasium

At a Le Grand town caucus in the council room, voters nominated a slate for the upcoming election including mayor Jesse Tow and councilmen Walter Reed John Krughel Max Radioff A T Sawyer and R M Twede plus assessor J F Rylander and treasurer T M Sawyer. The group authorized the council to explore buying the school gym and moving it to relieve insurance costs. A committee of Benj Sawyer A T Sawyer Jesse Tow and N O Keen will convey sentiments to the council. Community interest favored retaining the gym for public use and a plan to purchase it from the school board and relocate was proposed. Also noted were ads and local notes about milk from TB tested cows and visits by Mrs Joe Gangering to J M Gaunt.

Le Grand Team Triumphs In District Basketball Play

Le Grand enters the district tournament at Marshalltown and trims the prominent Y team. In the final, Beane’s late free throw gives Le Grand a one point edge over Grimes, with Tow and McClure star players. A season wrap ends with plans for a Des Moines U.S. Bank versus Jack's Tigers game in Le Grand.

Thirty Year Wedding Anniversary Celebration at McCune Home

About sixty friends gathered at the Carl Bovenmyer home Thursday night to honor Mr. and Mrs. Chas McCune on their thirtieth wedding anniversary. A mock wedding featured Charles Carter and Mrs. Wilfred Brupencamp, with a full ceremony led by Mrs. Oscar Rank, plus period costumes and a ring ceremony. The event included songs, a light program, a negro sermon, and dessert served by local ladies. The couple received a pearl handled fruit knife set and silver as gifts.
