Le Grand Red Cross Adjourns After Finishing Work

The Le Grand Red Cross sewing group met on February 26 and finished all work on hand. Unless notified otherwise, there will be no more meetings of the LeGrand Branch. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs. J. J-Mote and Mrs. L C Knudson for leading the work department.

Farewell Surprise for Mrs Phoebe McCarel Family

Neighbors gathered Thursday evening in a social surprise for Mrs Phoebe McCarel and family. About fifty guests attended, with music by Miss Keith and local students. Refreshments of fruit salad coffee and cake were served by Mrs Richards Mrs Piper and helpers. A small purse was presented as a token of esteem from the community and church.

Pioneer Minister Rev David Harrison Reaches 90 in Pulpit

Rev David Harrison, a former Le Grand pioneer preacher, at 90 serves as pastor of St Francis Methodist Church in Kansas. He delivered a sermon to about 500, with attendees from nearby churches honoring his long ministry and Civil War era loyalties.

Ice Harvest Goes Ahead Despite Poor Quality and Bad Roads

After several days of cold and a few warm spells the ice crop reaches eight inches but is of poor quality. Private ice houses abound and wagon loads bump along rough, torn roads as workers race to store the supply. Community notes report moves of residents, sales plans, and upcoming auctions including a March 12 closing-out sale by S. C. Kellogg near Montour.

A lecture by Edward O. Snethen was held at the high school auditorium. Mr. Fred Jensen of Thayer, Ind. sent a brief greeting indicating they sold their place and may relocate.
