The Le Grand Red Cross sewing group met on February 26 and finished all work on hand. Unless notified otherwise, there will be no more meetings of the LeGrand Branch. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs. J. J-Mote and Mrs. L C Knudson for leading the work department.
Neighbors gathered Thursday evening in a social surprise for Mrs Phoebe McCarel and family. About fifty guests attended, with music by Miss Keith and local students. Refreshments of fruit salad coffee and cake were served by Mrs Richards Mrs Piper and helpers. A small purse was presented as a token of esteem from the community and church.
Notice to qualified electors of Indepen dent Consolidated School District LeGrand in Marshall County Iowa that the annual meeting will be held at LeGrand Consolidated School on the second Monday in March 1919 from 2 to 7 p.m. A. B. Sioux secretary. Postscript items note local business and notices about hog feed for sale and a family telegram announcing Lieut. Tenas Olson’s arrival and pending visit.
Rev David Harrison, a former Le Grand pioneer preacher, at 90 serves as pastor of St Francis Methodist Church in Kansas. He delivered a sermon to about 500, with attendees from nearby churches honoring his long ministry and Civil War era loyalties.

Secretary A B Sloan certifies the Independent Consolidated School District of LeGrand Tama and Marshall Counties Iowa presents the annual financial report for year ending March 5 1919. It shows receipts from state tuition and other sources and expenditures including teachers salaries library and supplies transportation and building costs with total indebtedness bonds warrants and projected needs for next year.
A vintage ad promotes Chamberlains Cough Remedy for children and Tishs Catarrh Cure by FP J Cheney Co Toledo Ohio. It claims ease for coughs colds and catarrh with a constitutional approach and offers one hundred dollar cure guarantees. Sold by druggists and Ballas Family Pills for constipation are also mentioned.
After several days of cold and a few warm spells the ice crop reaches eight inches but is of poor quality. Private ice houses abound and wagon loads bump along rough, torn roads as workers race to store the supply. Community notes report moves of residents, sales plans, and upcoming auctions including a March 12 closing-out sale by S. C. Kellogg near Montour.
The Friends Church in Ray lists J R Wiccar as pastor with Sunday School at 10 o clock led by J F Rylander superintendent. Junior service at 11 with E Sanday superintendent and Mrs Retta Bigelow. Y P S C E meets at 6 30 with 7 30 preaching. Prayer meeting Wednesday at 7 30. You are invited to worship with us.
Christian Church announces Sunday School at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. Junior C. E. at 3 p.m. and a second preaching service at 7:30 p.m. Prayer meeting is Wednesday at 7:30. A lecture by Edward O. Snethen was held at the high school auditorium. Mr. Fred Jensen of Thayer, Ind. sent a brief greeting indicating they sold their place and may relocate. An insurance ad from C I Tiedt promotes fire and wind protection with a small premium.
Closing out sale by Tam at public auction includes 70 head of stock 5 horses and 4 cows plus 45 pigs, farm machinery from John Deere planters to cream separator, 1100 bushels corn and 700 bushels oats, free lunch noon, on March 12 at 10 30. Auctioneers 8 C Kellogg and R Manshid with Montour National Bank as clerk.
