LeGrand Girls Rally After Narrow District Losses

LeGrand girls win two of three district tournament games in LeGrand last week and head to the state meet in Des Moines. Myrna Johnson racks up 63 points across the three games, the tourney high. Marjorie Rosedale scores 27 in the win over Toddville while Johnson adds 29 in the 89 point team effort against Williams in the section. Officials included Vernon Schroedermeier and K. L. Benner with timer Richard Bardwell and scorer Paul Norris.

Mrs. Donald Reed lies at St Thomas hospital as a surgical patient. Edith Gaunt, a St Anthony teacher, spent weekend at home. R E Lee Aldrich of Temple City Calif visited his mother Mary Hoover. Mahlon Gaunt of Tama visited his parents. Charles Richards and wife visited daughter Mabel Rowlison at Carlton. Rosa Richards returned from Minneapolis and St Paul. Ida Merritt moved rooms within the Rosa Richards property. Willis Cutler is very ill at Deaconess hospital with one lung filling. The Cleo Lamb family moved to the Riley McGool cottage on East Main. Clover and alfalfa prices listed with other lots. Postal catalog requests offered. Charles O’Neal from Sumner spent weekend with Corwin O’Neal and attended a basketball tournament. Clyde Tarbett bought Mrs Scholfield’s South Hamilton property opposite the hatchery. Scholfield will move to Iowa Falls. Mr and Mrs Glenn Smaha, recently from Charles City, visit J F Smaha Jr and plan to move headquarters here. Dr H K McGrew and companions attended service. praised for improved appearance. At Royal Neighbor meeting Rosa Richards announced Hollis Richards marrying Will Miller of Marshalltown on November 6 1937. L T Husk and wife returned from Chicago after attending 1938 State Farm Insurance convention. L T won trip for top performance. They stayed at Stevens hotel, described as largest in the world.

Miller and Rubenbauer Wedding in Mount Pleasant

Irene Miller of Marshalltown and Russell Rubenbauer of LeGrand married at the Miller home in Mount Pleasant with Rev I G Kitzmann officiating. The couple will live near LeGrand after a wedding trip. attendees included out of town guests from Dillon, Toledo, Montour, and Waukegan.

Sub-district contest follows on March 11, and County Music Contest on March 18 at State Center. LeGrand entries include Girls Glee Club, Girls Sextet, and several solo and ensemble performances. Boys reach finals with LeGrand defeating Hartwick, Gilman, Newbury, and Geneseo to finish 42-26 in the final. detailed scoring highlights and top scorers are listed.
