Chinese pheasants introduced to LeGrand area
The Izaak Walton League and private parties introduced ring tailed Chinese pheasants to LeGrand. Six pairs arrived from Clive, three by Oliver Swenson, three by L C and E Blodgett, and they were released in scattered locations. Some few birds have hatched, with mixed reports on success, but the writer hopes the population will grow to resemble prairie chickens. State game laws protect the birds and game wardens must verify introductions.

The Institute held Tuesday afternoon and evening in LeGrand drawing many mothers despite threatening weather. Mrs. J. W. Piper led the service with piano solo by Mrs. T. M. Sawyer. Mrs. O. Qualen spoke on Mothers Problems. Evening devotional by Dr. Follanbee, Rev. Sarah Piper on jury service, and readings by Mrs. S. M. Gaunt plus a playlet The Sick Baby. Home Again Ben and Myron Sawyer Return From California Journey
Ben and Myron Sawyer arrived back from an eventful long coast to coast trip via southern and northern routes. They spent winter in Long Beach and traced a wide circuit through Seattle, Billings, Bismarck, Minneapolis, Marshalltown and Ackley, noting rough gravel roads and 10 000 miles on their jeepometer. They toured Yellowstone and the Pacific coast and met Emil and Lewis Shelley Berkeley Clayton Forbes in Seattle and others in the Dakotas and Minnesota. R D Hogan secured a large electrical contract this week, the Marengo job fueling his broad smile.

Mrs WH Langdon of Marshalltown died at Deuchess hospital on Thursday morning May 28 after four weeks in hospital and an unsuccessful operation. Born October 14 1888 in East LeGrand she married W H Langdon November 15 1916 and lived in Marshalltown. Survived by husband and daughter Anna Frandle of East LeGrand along with siblings and many relatives. Burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery Le Grand. Read the R D Hogan advertisement on another page.
