Death Comes 10 Mrs Sylvia Speers in Iowa Falls

Sylvia Malinda Parsons Speers obituary notes a life of family leadership and service. Born 1868 in Cedar county, she educated at Friends Academy LeGrand and Cornell Mt Vernon, taught a decade, and raised eight children. She belonged to Methodist church, PTA founder, and several civic clubs. She lived with son Mahlon in Colorado since January.

A writer in Collier's Weekly notes an old burial practice in Scotland where the deceased is removed through a side opening in the house and the opening is afterward walled up. The ghost is said to be prevented from entering since the only door it knows is gone.

Truman Manship, athletic coach at New Sharon High School for two years, resigns this spring to take a coaching position at Jefferson with a higher salary. He will coach the class B squad and teach agricultural subjects in Jefferson, a city of 3,500 with a 350-student high school. Manship and his brother Norman will join a coaching family, four brothers now coaching at Humboldt Cole Bagley and Jefferson, with their sister having previously coached girls' athletics.
