Herbert nicknamed Bolt suffered a deep leg wound when the butt of a scythe struck an emery wheel in a LeGrand garage. He bled heavily beforeDr Mills treated him, then rested at home. The report notes his pain, recovery pace, and care after the incident.
The W. C. T. U. institute met Tuesday afternoon at the Friends church with Mrs. A. H. Pemberton presiding Rev. Guthrie led devotion and Mrs. O. W. Johnson directed a strong program. Members William Robert Horn and David Taylor Guthrie joined, Roslyn Haynes gave the S. T. L. pledge, Goldie Richards spoke of mission work in Kentucky, and the Four-fold Development discussion covered physical mental social and spiritual aspects. Thomas H Draper age 70 died after six months illness at his home 208 North Seventh Avenue Marshalltown following surgery at Deaconess hospital He was born July 13 1871 near Prairieville married Mae Adair on November 25 1896 in LeGrand and lived in Marshalltown since ten years ago Survived by wife three children two brothers and a niece Funeral services were held at the Friends church LeGrand and Estes funeral home with burial in LeGrand Friends Cemetery Pallbearers named S H Gimre Chas Saylor P M Herbert Chas Dobson F F Hines Truman Dobson.

The school board hired Mr. Thompson of Marshalltown who led the ensemble in 1926-27. A twelve student class starts private lessons Wednesday June 6 at the high school. Anyone may join and learn more from the organizer. Local effort aims to build a real school and community orchestra.
Rev. Taylor Guthrie presides at 10 a.m. Bible School led by C. W. Johnson, 11 a.m. Morning service with a sermon titled Dry and Wet. Junior Endeavor at 11 a.m. led by Toma Guthrie, Christian Endeavor at 7 p.m. Maurice Johnson leads. Evening service at 8 p.m. on Wet and Dry. Wednesday prayer meeting at 8 p.m. Thursday choir practice at 8 p.m. All welcome.
The Christian Church announces a full day with Church School at 10, Morning Worship at 11 led by Mary Higinbotham, Christian Endeavor at 7 led by Mabel Gaunt on the theme My Plans for a Profitable Summer, and an 8 p m Evening Service. A Prayer Circle meets Wednesday at 7 30 followed by a church business meeting. Mrs J W Piper delivered Memorial Day sermon in pastor’s absence.
Sunday at Quarry Chapel features 10 a.m. Sunday School, 1 p.m. Morning Service, and 7:30 p.m. Evening Service. W. W. Newell hosted guests from Marshalltown for Baccalureate exercises with W. Owen Newell graduating. Local neighbors hosted Cal Dougherty and family with Helen and Cal winning progressive rock honors.
