The home economics department of Towa State college explains buttermilk as a cooling summer drink made from skim or whole milk using bacteria. After heating to 180 degrees for 30 minutes and cooling to 70, a commercial culture is added and the milk ferments 24 to 48 hours to increase acidity, then churned and cooled for drinking. Commercial buttermilk tablets are available to start the process.
Dr John Ise of Iowa State College argues for official fly catchers and citywide use of Screen By traps to reduce disease from flies. A California town reportedly cut fly numbers, as traps at barns homes and stores drew insects away from houses and became social hubs. Adelaide and Augusta Van Buren travel across the country to San Francisco stopping in LeGrand. E R Arnold returns from Wisconsin after visiting his brother, W C Arnall, in banking work.

Officials from Iowa State College and the state highway commission examined 19 pits within Buen Vista county and plan to surface every mile of the road system with gravel as soon as possible. By year end old wooden bridges will be replaced by modern structures and a permanent grading system will be established, with northern sections posing tougher terrain.

Friday evening in Marshalltown the Dunbar Bible Class of the Lutheran church will present a recital featuring Emma Bord Clara Tolheisr and Innall Conser. The annual singers concert by the Choral Union will be held at Cambridge. The Cantata this year is the Holy Girl by Gaul. The Dunbar Ladies Aid will meet next Wednesday August 2 at the home of Mrs. Andrew Halverson east of Dunbar. Esq. O Iyerenbsran.
