Lightning Strikes Near Lyell Johnson During Storm
During a violent thunderstorm Lyell Johnson and Grant Higinbotham worked on a chicken house north of town. A bolt struck a nearby post and followed the fence past Lyell narrowly missing him as he fell and was cut on the scalp. Neighbors carried him to a house, a doctor was summoned, and he recovered by Tuesday. Johnson likens the incident to a rough football foul tackle.

Mrs Ann B Leech widow of Samuel Y Leech longtime LeGrand area resident died at her son W E Leech s home in Marshalltown on Thursday afternoon after stomach cancer. Born Sept 16 1838 in Fredericktown Ohio she moved to Marshall County as a young woman and married in LeGrand Jan 1 1861. Survived by five sons Louis J Cornelius Willis Norman and Walter Leech all of Marshalltown and others. last surviving member of her family. funeral held at W E Leech home with Rev N Rich officiating and burial in Riverside cemetery. She was a member of the Friends church.
