Johnson Beats Jeffries in Fifteenth Round to Claim Heavyweight Title
Reno July 5 James J Jeffries was knocked out by Jack Johnson in the fifteenth round. Tex Rickard announced the purse rose to $121,000 with a $10,000 bonus to each man and a 60 40 split for the winner. Johnson dominated from the opening, delivering a clinical display of ring science and power. Jeffries faded after the sixth round and was stopped after being floored through the ropes in the final stretch. Revenue from the gate reportedly reached about $250,000 with spectators stunned by the historic upset and Johnson's decisive victory.

The funeral for J. M. Wilson of Macksburg who died when lightning struck as he sought shelter in a barn during a thunderstorm was held at his home. Townsend, the barn owner, was knocked down but recovered. an Townsend employee was severely injured. Wilson, a former Adair County state representative, leaves his wife and four children.

Bolt Kills Girl After Lightning Strike Near Ottumwa

Doctor Swallows Tooth During Dental Procedure
