Shelton Beats Record Walking 1207 Miles From New York

Shelton arrived in LeGrand two days ahead of schedule after a 1207 mile walk from New York City in 27 days 22 hours. He faced heat and blisters yet shaved two days off his previous 30 day record and predicts a 26 day return. A public finish drew a cheering crowd as he rested and planned exhibitions before resuming next month.

Independence Day Picnic Amid Rain and Revelry

A Fourth of July celebration in La Parte Iowa was dampened by heavy rain delaying activities until after dinner. A sun break enabled a ball game between married men and singles and a three mile exhibition hike. Rural church reform urged by Iowa conference speakers

Dr Warren H Wilson of New York City told rural life conference at Iowa State college that country churches lack democratic spirit. He warned churches are ruled by a few old deacons, stifling minister and congregation participation. Other speakers echoed the need to cut insular elder control.
