Sixteen members of the Lucky Leaf 4 H Club met at Rosaline Haynes home last Friday afternoon. The meeting covered routine business and a discussion on demonstrating teams led by Mrs Cookingham. Arlene Hibbs led a picture study on The Fairy Tales. The girls sextet sang a vocal number and Maxine Hoover reported on the state convention at Ames, June 25 28. Refreshments followed.
Mrs Ida Merritt returns Sunday morning from a week with relatives near Laurel. Mr and Mrs Robert Dillman and their sons Dale and Glen of Mon tour were Sunday guests at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs Will Dunham.
A damp Fourth of July brought rain to ease drought yet spared plans as showers passed. People from Garwin, Bangor and Marshalltown joined in a pleasant holiday before a late storm cooled heat. John Johnson logged half an inch of rain overnight while noting the soil remained dry near the surface. Thermometers hit 98 in the afternoon, with Shenandoah reporting 107 but little moisture.
In Friends Church Rev. Taylor Guthrie leads a worship service with topics including Some Distressing Margins and Christian Liberty. John Rhodes to speak on Christian Liberty. Wednesday 8 p m monthly business meeting. all are welcomed. A father’s deathbed tale urges daily prayer for thirty days, prompting the son to seek mercy.
The Christian Church held a worship service at eight p m and a church school at ten a m. The regular quarterly communion was observed Sunday July 1. The Mission Circle met Thursday with Miss Della Richards, led by Mrs Emley. Topics included Our Responsibility Toward Christian Missions in America. Lunch followed the social hour. The next church business meeting is Wednesday July 11 at 7 30 p m with a welcome to all.
Miss Maurine Buchanan and Raymond Cooper wed at 10 o'clock Saturday forenoon at United Brethren Church Toledo. The bride is daughter of Clayton and Mrs Buchanan of Montour area. the groom is son of James Cooper near Garwin. They will reside on a Carlton Township farm.
The Consolidated Independent School District of Dunbar invites bids for drivers of the back routes for the ensuing year. Bids accepted until 8 p.m. July 17, 1934. Bidders should review route changes before bidding. The board may accept or reject any or all bids. Delmar D. Latham, Secretary.
The Tama News-Herald notes President Roosevelt signed an order to inject 150 million dollars into drought regions in the west and middle west. It argues government duty is swift relief in emergencies and recalls postwar Europe aid, urging similar action for drought affected Americans at home.
The regular meeting of the W C T U was held Tuesday July 8 with Cora Hoover in attendance. Ten members and four guests participated as the program featured Mrs Mattie Pemberton and Mrs Alice Sloat. Next meeting led by Mrs Rylander with Mrs Hoover’s group.
