Death and Funeral of Cleo Leech
Cleo Leech died at Deaconess hospital Marshalltown at 7 p.m. on June 27 after an operation for acute appendicitis. Born March 30 1894 on a LeGrand farm, he lived his life in the community and left a widow Leona Weitzel and four children Orley 10 Vivian 7 Dorothy 3 Louis 11 months. He was survived by his parents and other relatives. Funeral held at the Christian church with burial at Pleasant Hill cemetery. Polar Star lodge led services. The family expresses thanks to friends and Masonic and Eastern Star members for support and flowers.

Descendants of Eli Hoover gathered for a Fourth of July reunion in LeGrand with about 75 attendees from several states including California and Nebraska. Attendees included Herbert Hoover relatives, ministers, and cousins. plans shifted from Haynes Grove to Riverside Park due to rain. Jennie Hoover preached at the Friends church, recounting Jamaica mission work and companionate marriage. A railroad official helped a Hammond cousin reach her parents’ home early.

Property owners in LeGrand must cut weeds adjacent to their parcels by July 10 or town authorities will do so at the owners' expense. By order of Mayor Chas. W. Dunham Town Clerk Mrs. Clifford Jones and sister Miss Jennie Hoover visited Cedar Rapids. War McLeland was nominated for state senator and Frank Ward for sheriff at the Marshalltown convention. The electorate is fairly well satisfied with current nominations. The High Line from LeGrand west limit to the Montour substation will be rebuilt with poles and wire. work has begun with poles arriving at LeGrand and Montour. A work crew strings poles through town. Tama County is improving roads east from LeGrand. a concrete bridge near Chas Coffin is under construction, closing traffic temporarily, plus another small bridge at Anvil hill. An east road closure will persist during construction. Critics' kicks are noted as unproductive, many kickers from Marshall County.
