Hampshire hog meeting aims for meatier hogs with less lard

A recent Marshalltown gathering discussed shifting hog production toward meatier types with reduced lard content. Hampshire association officials, led by Lawrence T. Hibbs, emphasized bacon over lard and urged market exploration. E M Harsch advocated meatier hogs as key to better markets and profits.

310 Baby Beeves in County Sets County Record

The Marshall county 4 H club reports 310 head of baby beeves on feed, a new county record. Herefords lead with 149 head, many bought in Nebraska and Wyoming, plus 100 Angus and 64 Shorthorns. Entries will be classified by weight at the county fair next fall.

W C T U June Meeting at Gertrude Kaisands Home

The June meeting of the W C T U was held at Gertrude Kaisands home with Edna Beane presiding. Eleven members and three visitors attended. the program featured songs, devotions from 2 Chronicles, and readings on moral topics. The August meeting will be at Miss Della Richards. Mrs Amanda Frundle of Madrid and companions visited Des Moines and Madrid during a weeklong trip.

Prentiss Jubilee Singers Delight Friends Church Audience

Four colored students from Prentiss Normal and Industrial Institute performed at Friends Church Tuesday evening. The quartet Eugene McLeod Curtiss Holloway Horace Bridges Archie Mernis sang Jubilee melodies with strong harmony and goodwill. Trustees including Dr George W Carver were noted as influential. The group travels with northern concert circuits and aims to uplift the negro race.

Mission Circle hears Indian mission talk at Walken home

The Missionary society met last Friday afternoon with Mrs. Herman Walken. Rev. J. G. Patterson spoke on Mission work among the Indians near Tama, clearing up misunderstandings about daily life. A social time and refreshments followed. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sandeen visited Tama.

Tow Family Reunion Held in Marshalltown at Riverview Park

The Tow family reunion gathered on Sunday at Riverview park in Marshalltown with members from Norway Iowa to Worthington Minnesota attending. Officers elected for the coming year were Samuel Tow president and Mrs. Stanley Vance secretary-treasurer. The 1941 reunion is set for the last Sunday in June at the same location.

A late 19th century style missive from Roy to Dr Youngs asks if he remains in business and would consider a drug shop partnership or clerical role. Christiana is recovering from illness. Roy reports good health. The note was found between timbers, mice damaged, mentions LeGrand pioneer physician Dr Youngs and Cordelia Youngs.
