Iowa River Claims Its First Victim

Leolin Y Van Horn age 21 drowned in the Iowa river below the dam while picnicking party of four youths swam near the dam. Elmer Peterson tried to save him and a girl narrowly escaped drowning. Rescue efforts by locals failed and the body was recovered after about 1 hour 45 minutes. life extinct. Local families and visitors noted in community notices follow.

Auto Goes In Ditch Lawrence Hibbs Injured

Lawrence Hibbs was injured in a late night crash after leaving a convention in Clear Land. He recalls little of the return trip and woke in Deaconess Hospital with a bad knee cut and multiple bruises. Two Marshalltown youths found him unconscious beside a damaged pole and road sign and rushed him to the hospital.
