Child Ingests Carbolic Acid In Perry Home

Two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Connor in Perry Ja. is in serious condition after removing a cork and swallowing a small amount of carbolic acid found at their home. The incident was discovered by his mother.

Improvements Bring New Cement Walks Citywide

Recent improvements include new cement walks on East Main street in front of John Lamer’s property and connecting to the barbershop and hotel. A cement crossing between Bickel and Adair is planned after the Fourth, with the Gibson walk and a full-width porch at the Carter residence also slated.

Death of Roy McNair in Kelso Washington

Roy McNair died after an accident in Kelso Washington on Saturday June 22 1912. He was born August 17 1885 in Garwin Iowa and grew up near Montour. He had traveled through the western states and settled in Washington in recent years. Survived by his parents Mr and Mrs J L McNair three sisters Maude Nelle and Hazel and two brothers Dan and Earl. Funeral held in Montour Methodist church conducted by Rev H O Pratt with choir renditions Rest for the Weary and Beautiful City of Gold. Burial at Maple Hill cemetery.

Elevator Change as LeGrand Firm Lands New Owner

W H Bickel sold the grain coal and Jumaber elevator in LeGrand to B L Cook of Zearing. Cook brings four years of elevator experience and ties to Marshalltown. Cook plans to move his family to LeGrand and make it his permanent home. Bickel will remain in LeGrand for now with unspecified future plans.

Baby Exhibition At Iowa State Fair Sets New Contest

The Annual Babies Health Contest returns as a permanent feature during fair week at the Town State Fair. Mrs. Mary Watts of Audubon leads the effort with three divisions and four classes for boys and girls ages under three. Prizes include 10 and 35 dollars per class with 50 and 40 dollars championship prizes for boys and girls respectively. Entries close August 28 and ribbons are awarded August 29.

Our Churches announce schedule for Bible school at 9 45 a m and preaching at 11 a m at the Christian Church with Junior OC Endeavor at 3 p m Senior Endeavor 7 pm and mid week prayer 7 30 pm All welcome.
