Grading gang begins operations near Lamoille and Tama line
The grading gang arrived Monday and set camp on L.T. Hibbs pasture. They tore out a guard fence on the high grade west of the double tracks, then widened the grade at the foot of Tom Keen hill. Plans include paving toward the west crossing and a mile section toward the bridge over Davidson Creek near Clyde Hoover's. Additional work extends east to the Tama county line and toward Timber Creek. Citizens ask whether officials will provide an overhead bridge or other relief across the North Western tracks as property within a mile and a half may be taxed for cost.

Old Fiddler Contest Aims To Revival Midwest Tune
State Fair launches a state wide contest to crown the champion old fiddler of the Midwest. Entries must be 50 or older, with eight prizes from 25 to 3 and an old fashioned fiddling bee planned in a large assembly tent on Tuesday September 1. Entries close August 31 at 6 pm. Rudolph Rubenbauer dies after long illness in LeGrand area
Rudolph Rubenbauer aged 77 dies at home two and a half miles west of LeGrand following a two year decline from pernicious anemia. He was born September 20 1857 on the Dillon homestead and married Matilda Handorf in 1882, leaving five children, three sons Irving Charles Emmet and a daughter Gladys. widow, three grandchildren and siblings survive. Funeral at Evangelical Lutheran church south of Dillon Friday at 2:30 with brief home service. Rev H P Dahl to officiate.
