Christian Gimre Gets the Call

Longtime resident of a Norwegian settlement near LeGrand remembered as thrifty enterprising farmer. Born in Norway in the early 1880s, he sailed to America in the 1850s, worked in Primrose Wisconsin, then settled in Iowa Marshall county. Known for fair judgment, he advised local pioneers and guarded against conflict while sharing stories of early lawyers and community life.

In a Sunday Marshall County League game Clemons was held to seven runs while LeGrand plated five. Sparky Gaunt pitched masterfully for LeGrand limiting Clemons to three hits. Everts delivered Clemons only three base hits with a late three base hit. Norman Manship and Smaha starred defensively for Clemons. Hal ter and Wilkening split mound duties. The Eagles Billiards visit LeGrand on July 3 and a July 4 LeGrand game with Marshalltown’s Eagle Billiards is listed.

Fall from Cherry Tree Injures Mrs Eddie Bond

Mrs Eddie Bond suffered a broken pelvic bone after a fall from a cherry tree while picking cherries at the Dan Bond home in Dillon Monday. She was taken to St Thomas hospital where surgeons are tending to her injuries.

Northwestern plant to reopen with July 5 rock crushing

Superintendent Baumgartner orders at the Northwestern plant to begin active rock crushing July 5. Tech teams repair machinery and prepare operations. About twenty five workers will be hired, with preference to Marshall county residents and former employees.

Keynoter to Speak at State Fair with Dual Political Days

Iowa state fair will host two partisan days one for a statewide Republican rally and another for an all-Iowa Democratic celebration. Central committees plan to bring nationally prominent speakers to inaugurate fall campaigns. Dates set for last week of August with amplifying systems to handle large crowds. Lee Aldrich has returned to California after a visit to LeGrand and Vinton. A $200 farm land sale is noted in the neighborhood.
