Champion diver Leavitt held on fraud charge in Philadelphia

Benjamin Franklin Leavitt a champion diver and president of the Leavitt Lusitania Salvage Company was arrested in Philadelphia and held on bail on a fraud charge arising from selling stock to a widow. The company claimed a Chile expedition would precede salvaging ten million dollars in specie from the Lusitania wreck.

Canadian Hall of Fame to honor Dominion builders on Parliament Hill

A Canadian Hall of Fame is planned for Parliament Hill Ottawa to honor national heroes and benefactors. The memorial tower and a special chamber will display the names of Canadas 50 000 expeditionary forces and memory walls will overlook the Lovers Walk. A neighborhood dispute over chickens in Lafferty, Ohio led to the shooting death of Michael Kindem, a miner. He was attacked by Guy Adeto and Dominic Spanish during the fight and was later slain by Adeto.

Narrow escape after train runs over two teens in Greenup

Miss Roth Craycraft fifteen years old and her chum Leona Thompson fifteen were walking on railroad tracks to a prayer meeting when a freight train struck them. Thompson was thrown clear with minor injuries while Craycraft was dragged beneath the cars. Seventeen cars passed over her leaving her severely injured but alive. She was taken to a hospital after extensive surgery and is expected to recover. The engineer did not know of the accident until reaching a distant station.
