Everett Tjossem escaped worse injuries after slipping on a snowy curb while crossing to borrow eggs. Two approaching cars with bright headlights struck him, breaking his collar bone. He was taken to Deaconess hospital for treatment. Driver identified as Duane Clow of Toledo.
A letter from T E Mann describes illness and impatience with paralysis, enclosing an annual holiday note from Robert J White of 1879 era. He recalls life events, includes names Parker Mercer Rhoda Plummer and Rose Hills cemetery in Whitier California, and wishes Christmas and New Year greetings to old friends.
Mr and Mrs Vernon Thompson spent New Year’s Day at the O R Westerfield home in Gilman. Billy Holland visited his uncle and aunt Mr and Mrs Bert Holland Jr and their little son in Marshalltown, returning New Year’s Day.
Ellery Kyle of Fairfield visited the I M Gaunt home while Mrs Ida Merritt spent days with friends in Dillon. Miss Ruth Guthrie of West Branch visited LeGrand, and a baby girl Karen Kay was born to Mr and Mrs Harry Kaisand on Jan 3 1938. Regulars include New Year visits at the Ferneau home, Norman Manship returning to Bagley, and a basketball double header turning into a single game with Albion vs Green Mountain ending 51 to 50.

An illustrated talk by Charles Vincent from Jamaica delighted attendees at the Friends church on Wednesday evening. The East Indian educated speaker described his Jamaica upbringing, Friends University training, and years teaching on the island. A photo sequence highlighted Jamaica’s life and history and revealed college connections with Mrs Vincent and Harold Perisho. The note also mentions Magnes Holland installing a 140 HP gas engine at his quarry to power a new crusher.
Rev. Floyd L. Hinshaw presides at LeGrand Friends Church with 10:00 Sunday School, 11:00 Morning Worship led by O. W Johnson, an 6:45 Christian Endeavor session followed by 7:30 Evening Worship. The sermon theme is Will He Come Again.
Christian Church announces 10 a m Church School and morning services at fix o clock Reverend B O Duncan to bring the message welcoming all attendees to the service at the church, led by minister Sarah M Piper.

A Searle family reunion was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Searle in Rock Valley with about fourteen attendees. Visiting from Chicago and Clinton joined local LeGrand residents including Dr. and Mrs. L. B. Fisher, George Keen, and the Keen family, as well as Maxine Searle and Maxime Searle.
The January meeting led by Mrs. Mattie Pemberton featured a program on character building. Committee chair Addie Knudson with Mesdames Mills and Edna Johnson presented topics and readings from Proverbs 6, a paper by Mrs. Mills substitute C. R. Durland, a duet by Knudson and Richards, and an open forum. Tea was served by the hostess and Mrs. Gaunt.
Mr and Mrs A J Tow and GC R Tow of Paullina visited in LeGrand over Sunday. Gasoline six gallons cost 1 00. Batteries charged 50c. New and used tires. Try our service Har vey Service Station.
The Patsy, first in a four part student series, opened Tuesday evening before a slim audience after the holiday break. Review notes good costuming and staging but criticizes some coarse dialogue. highlights include Little Mariel Tweet as a sympathetic lead, George Brush and Ruth Druker as Bill and Mrs Harrington, Virginia Reed as Grace, and William Crosby as Trip Busty, nephew of Magnus Holland.
