Mrs Hiram Hammond Called To Reward

Anna Hammond widow of Hiram Hammond died after a two week influenza illness in Los Angeles California on Thursday December 80th. Funeral held in Fagadena with grandson Lewis H Salisbury and son in law Rev Reuben H Hartley. Interment in Whittier cemetery beside relatives. She leaves two sons and two daughters including Lewis A Hammond Rev Chas L Sammond Mrs R H Hartley and Mrs S M Hadley. The Hammond couple celebrated their seventieth anniversary last August.

Christmas Program and School News Recap

The high school held a Christmas program on Thursday December 23 at 2 15 in the auditorium featuring reading violin and piano solos and a Christmas story plus a jest for Christmas readings Forty visitors attended and a diploma was awarded to Jobs Davis. After vacation teachers and students returned to start the new year. Alumni played the high school girls in a curtain raiser game, the alumni winning 21 to 18. SOPHOMORE NEWS notes praise for Miss Kahnda and return to classes. Grade news covers illness recovery and Santa Claus visit with candy for children.

Deaths: Forrest Outland Diphtheria Victim

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Outland mourn the loss of their youngest son Forrest who died last Friday in West Branch after a brief diphtheria illness. He was 14 turning 15, attended Scattergood academy and visited Iowa City for dental work. Burial was in Friends cemetery, West Branch.

PTA Meeting Set For January at High School

The January Parent-Teacher Association meeting is planned for Tuesday evening January 11 in the high school building with a promising program. Families are asked to bring one dozen doughnuts and their own plates cups and spoons. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brierly and children spent New Year’s at the Sawyers’ home near Green Mountain. Rev. Harold Bentley resumed college work in Grinnell after holiday visits with LeGrand parishioners.

Town council funds two and a half gallon extinguishers
