Iowa State Fair Not Bad Investment Report Shows Profits

The Iowa state fair posted a net profit of 1 047 818 for 1902 to 1980 excluding two loss years 1931 and 1932. The report notes 938 000 invested in permanent buildings and 644 648 in improvements, with total operating costs of 6 044 708 over 31 years funded by fair receipts.

Class Reunion Brings Montour and Marshalltown Alumni Together

The high school class of 1980 held a reunion at Royal Neighbor hall on Monday evening. Fourteen members enjoyed rock and other games, with refreshments served by class girls. Dale Keen presided as president. Attendees included Donavon Hines and his wife from Montour, Lewis Beane and his wife from Marshalltown, Maxine Armstrong, Hollis Richards, Ralph Piper of Albion, Alvin Rosedale, Russell Hibbs, Harvey Rasmussen, Orin Cooper, Max Adair, Lauretta Bigelow, and Helen Larson.

Christmas Programs And Games On School Schedule

Christmas activities filled the schools with a well-attended program, visits by staff and families, and a postponed basketball game now rescheduled for January 24. High school teams host Newhall and Toledo, with emphasis on spirited matchups and student involvement.

Montour Athletes Struggle in One-Sided Game Night

At the high school gym Saturday night Montour faced the All-Stars from Albion in the first of two contests. Montour, out of practice, lagged behind as Sturtz and Millard starred for the village. Norman Mikkelson captained last year’s squad as the final scorelines show 81 49 to 12 and 63 to 16, with Truman Manship refereeing.

Collegians Defeat Albion Behind Strong Second Half

Literary and Musical Club Dinner Held in Club Rooms

Families of the Ladies Literary and Musical Club enjoyed a New Year's dinner with seventy one in attendance. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs A A Piper Albion Mr and Mrs Will McAllister Waterloo and Miss Jessie Manship Mansfield Pa. The next meeting is January 11 in the club rooms with Mrs W M Gaunt as hostess.

Johnson Named Chairman of County Agricultural Credit Council

Oscar W. Johnson of LeGrand was unanimously chosen as chairman of the new county agricultural credit council at its Friday meeting at the farm bureau office. The eight member board includes C. E. Nickerson, P. F. Arney, George Earhart, W. S. Bohen, R. L. Bryant, Fred Clemons, and M. C. Berkeley. Clemons was elected vice chairman. Blanks are available at the farm bureau for farmers to file financial statements before cases are considered. Uncle Hiram Wolken and son Dan visited Reporter headquarters Saturday and offered his views on current conditions, noting his 77 years and long life of pioneer work in the Dillon area.

Christian Church schedule shows 10a.m. church school led by Doris Baumgartner and 11 o'clock morning worship with theme Opportunities of 1933. No evening services. New Year Party Brightens LeGrand Home

A New Year Eve watch party at Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Johnson's home featured turkey pickers and families. Guests included the Wolken, Perry, Shope, Rank, Mills, and Durland families from Ames and nearby. Harlow Mills and family planned a short Ames visit, with others noted as visitors and travelers. Reverend Clifford Tarves tad spoke at the Friends church, praised for his sermon, and his return from Moody Bible Institute is noted.

Royal Neighbors install new officers at Daffodil Camp

The Royal Neighbors Daffodil Camp No 1529 held their annual installation at their hall Tuesday evening with Rosa Richards as installing officer and Hollis Richards as ceremonial marshal. Officers elected for the year include Oracle Nora Dunham Vice Oracle Margaret Mahle Past Oracle Ruth Scriven and several others led by Ardella Richards and Ellen Holland.

World’s Largest Meteorite Found in Tanganyika Region

A Johannesburg land surveyor reports discovering the world's largest meteorite in Tanganyika Africa. The iron nickel mass weighs seventy to eighty tons and spans nearly fourteen feet. Discovered between Lake Nyasa and Lake Tanganyika, W. H. Nott filed a mining claim for title.

Old Acquaintance Talks Carl Roseland Visit in Gilman
