Marshall county quarry north of LeGrand is due to open Monday January 7 with a limited initial workforce of unemployed locals from Quarry and LeGrand. The operation will expand to about 100 workers as cleanup proceeds and additional labor is added later. Crushed stone will be trucked along county roads and the air compressor, rebuilt after last year’s fire, is ready for use.
The Albion Collegian corrects a misphrase from last week’s basketball write-up praising Ralph Piper. It states he was a key cog in the Albion machine, his guarding admired, and notes his after graduation at State Teachers College, he became a teacher and coach at Hansen High School.
Three Waterloo buses have been added to Northwestern stages service. Eastbound 7:43 p.m. Waterloo and 5:32 p.m. Mt Vernon. Westbound 9:43 a.m. Waterloo.

Polar Star Lodge No 113 A A F and A M holds regular communications on the third Monday of each month. J F Smaha serves as W M and C D Harvey as Secretary.
Regular PTA meeting was postponed due to a cancelled date. Local personal notes include Mr and Mrs Karl Benson guests at Corwin O Neal, Chas Jones helping at George Keen place, and Miss Marilyn Melivedt turning one. Weather improves, dairy and farm items noted, and local social events shared.

The family shares a new two room church funded home on Mary's land while Claude tends the farm, Charlie works nearby, Clarence is on the coast. The writer, nearing 76, misses preaching after forty years and hopes for Merry Christmas and a bright New Year.
Three bound volumes XXIII XXIV and XXV of the paper arrived by express at the Reporter office. The Leicht Press of Winona Minnesota bound them, continuing a long partnership to bind the other twenty two volumes. The collection stood nearly three feet tall, a monument to readers and supporters.
Drouth cut grain income but black walnuts proved above average in quality and quantity. Strong demand from confectionery trade absorbed most output, even from small drought-affected outs. Extension forester Guy Ramsay notes growing future value for Iowa farmers who maintain their walnut groves.
George W. Keen and Family express heartfelt thanks to neighbors and friends for sympathy during illness and after death. They also thank for the beautiful flowers received.
The Literary and Musical Club members and families enjoyed their annual New Year's dinner Tuesday at club rooms with forty attendees. A bountiful cafeteria meal was served at noon and the afternoon was spent socially. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Baer and family were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hilsabeck.
LeGrand and Lamoille met on home floor December 21 as LeGrand improved for both girls and boys. The girls limited Lamoille to 21 points while LeGrand scored 30, with guards excelling and passing improving. The LeGrand boys dominated fast and finished 25-15, setting up a clash with Gilman Friday night.
A Friends Church notice lists Rev. Taylor Guthrie as pastor with 10 Bible School. Sept 11 morning service topics include The Golden Rule vs the Rule of Gold. Evening services at 6:30 and 7:30 plus a 7:30 Wednesday monthly meeting. The sermon denounces crime and profiteering, urging love of God and fellowmen amid war’s suffering.
Christian Church announces 10a.m. church service with church school led by superintendent Mary Higinbotham. A welcome is extended to attendees.
Mr and Mrs Oliver Rosedale celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a Sunday dinner for about 60 guests at their daughter’s Marshalltown home Mrs Carney Meltvedt. Attendees included family from Marshalltown Grinnell Geddes Dunbar LeGrand Paullina and LeGrand with numerous relatives and friends.
