A planned time-card change for Sunday January 4 introduces enhanced passenger service at LeGrand. Train No 15 will be the fast line and stop at LeGrand to connect with westbound trains, offering a wider schedule and improved connections for Marshalltown, Ames, and Jordan.
In a Christmas night basketball game at the gymnasium LeGrand dominated Marshalltown with Mills scoring 11 in the first period and 5 more in the second, final 41 to 14. LeGrand lineup included Pemberton, Sawyer, Mills, Bowen, Haynes, Hanbecker. Marshalltown’s featured players were Smith, Cumming, Lindsted, Lampman, with McCreery subbing. The following Tuesday LeGrand hosted Montour, winning decisively as R Franks and others played for Montour. Referee Harold Cronk impressed with roller skating show after the match.
Community notes list residents visiting relatives in Des Moines and Dallas Center while others attend church meetings in Marshalltown. Local shipments include five cars of cattle to Chicago, with Blodgett Brothers and F. Hines guiding the cars. Several residents are traveling for holidays and enjoying family gatherings, including Christmas visits from Quarry, Union, and Marion township families.
The Lincoln Highway association reports large contributions and many pledges over the past ten days. John Stewart of Bilburn, Illinois subscribed 50000 in cash as a substantial gift. The Concrete Form and A Engine Co of Detroit also gave a liberal one percent of their annual gross business. Thousands of contributions range from five to a thousand dollars. A Jersey City to Newark dedication marks the line as the Essex and Hudson Lincoln Highway. A nationwide advertising campaign via 26 national publications aims to spark ownership interest and subscriptions, with notable donors including Elbert Hubbard and William C Freeman. The drive seeks over 200000 in subscriptions in 1914.
The Friends church basement rooms near completion after long labor by dedicated volunteers. Seven rooms wired for electric lights promise bright spaces. The Christian Church invites all to attend Sunday School at 9 45 a m and morning preaching by Prof G R Hammond Ph D at 11 a m with Christian Endeavor at 6 30 p m Junior Endeavor at 8 p m and evening preaching at 7 30 p m Also announced is an extended career of Dr Hammond as an educator and his teaching method inviting the public to hear him in Le Grand.

Mrs E D Medhus wife of Farmers State Bank Gilman president died Sunday at White hospital after cancer treatment. Born Carine Harem June 10 1867 in Sond Norway she came to the U S in 1889 settled Dunbar married October 1891 to E D Medhus. Survived by husband five sisters two brothers funeral held Stavanger church burial Stavanger cemetery. Grown children of Mr and Mrs J B Harvey spent Christmas with old folks bringing gifts including a leather couch and a desk chair for Jerry.
