Darktown Minstrels score big hit at LeGrand show

The Darktown Minstrels drew a full house at LeGrand on a Tuesday night, delivering fast gags, singing and a bold stage mix. A magician act by A. J. Ludwig plus a radio spoof and a comedic “Nigger Storekeeper” finale kept patrons roaring. Receipts totaled 144.50 with 165 from curtain ads. costs exceeded 300, prompting another show to cover the deficit.

Wedding Bells In LeGrand Neighborhood Christmas Eve

Miss Olga Devig wed Mr. Dop ald Yetley of Carlton in a Christmas Eve ceremony. Devig, daughter of Mr and Mrs Gus Devig of LeGrand, grew up in the community and is a 1924 graduate. Local social notes mention visits, entertainments, and holiday gatherings, while weather and snow removal updates note plowing and fence placements. The Northwestern railroad kept a grade crossing guarded after 16 hour traffic count: 573 autos crossed during the counted period.

Ed Reporter thanks La Grand friends for Christmas wishes. Goy and Mawre Harvyey and family report church work in Salem. The Methodist church will dedicate an eight room parsonage with bath, one block east of the church, by February quarterly meeting. Miss Gertrude Finton visits in Marshalltown with her mother Flora Sharp during Christmas.

Local basketeteers win Christmas clash 30 to 21

Marshalltown Independents routed Le Grand or LeGrandites on their home floor Christmas night. Edward Meltvedt led Le Grand scoring while Draper's group surged in the second half to close the gap. Alumni girls lost to high school team in a preliminary game before the independents’ win.

Mr and Mrs Henry Wagner long time area residents marked their wedding anniversary this week at the home of their daughter Mrs Emma Armstrong where they now reside Their marriage took place at Freeport Illinois on December 21 1865 The couple moved to Iowa soon after settling on farms near Faulkner and west of town before retiring in 1905 and moving to Alden
