Corwin O Neal notes in January 22 1935 Texas letter that mild winter shifted to cold 8 below in Adrian with a cold snap from a north wind. He recalls a recent rain and snow, a six hour dust storm on the 16th, and a large jack rabbit drive on the 12th with claimed 500 participants and 12000 rabbits, though he doubts the totals. Rabbits were hauled for hog feed across about 12 miles square.

Chinese artisans handcraft Foochow lacquerware with ancient roots dating back to 2000 B.C. The process uses natural varnish from the fac tree, silk and wood or silk pieces, and multiple lacquer coats. Silk lacquer vases are formed by applying stacked silk layers, then mold removal, with up to a hundred coats. Gold leaf adds rich luster to the prized Foochow gold lacquer, and decoration spans freehand landscapes or silver inlay with careful lacquer layering.
