John Harris, employed by Wm. Jubeck near town, forged a check with a bogus signature and cashed it at the bank. After cash was paid, suspicion led to arrest in Marshalltown. money recovered, Harris jailed awaiting district court trial. Booster Grub meeting tonight at the bank.
Roy Wells thanks neighbors for helping husk his corn on Tuesday in a brief community note.
Mrs E E Wade, a milliner, invites ladies of LeGrand and area to visit her shop to view a complete line of art needle work. The event promises inexpensive Christmas gifts and a gift worth while, with early arrival encouraged.
Our bills for light and power service rendered during the past month are due and payable. They may be found at the LeGrand Savings Bank until the 25th of each month. Bills not paid by then are returned to the Marshall town office and posted as delinquent. Visitors in Marshalltown are invited to use our office as a rest room or meeting place. 1.2.3 Town Ramway and Lieut Co.
Harold Rasmus and Leland Keen appear in school notes as seniors and assistants while volunteers cleaned the gym for basketball prep. Honor rolls update junior and sophomore lists, with attendance goals, holiday notes, and class challenges. Freshman absences noted and classic novel Silas Marner studied by English class.
Salvation Army representatives visited town early in the week to distribute literature about the organization as a prelude to a general funds appeal. The report notes a former LeGrand girl in Paonia will receive fifty two Reporter visits and hints at local Christmas goodwill.
Rev Guy W Harvey pastors Friends Church with 11 a m service preaching on Kind of Religion the World Wants. Evening sermon Gods First Judgment upon the World. Christian Endeavor 6 30 pm led by Harlow Mills. Prayer meeting Bible study Wednesday 7 30 pm. Choir practice Thursday at John Rylanders. Missionary Society meets Dec 18 at Mrs J J Motes home. Merry Maids bake sale event ended with awards for Amy Radloff Fern Reed Martha Tweet. Friendly Circle social with business meeting at 7 30 pm Tuesday at James Wilsons home.
Rev L B Fortansige leads a full schedule with Sunday School at 10, services at 11 and 7:20 pm, a children sermon on gifts for the king, practical religion in the sermon, and a prayer meeting Wednesday. Judge B O Tankersley spoke last Sunday on local practice. Ames student visitors Omar Manship Carl Rylander and Chas Hibbs, were home over Sunday.
Carlton area notices list hospital returnees visitors and social events. Several households hosted guests from LeGrand Marshalltown Quincy and Green Mountain during Thanksgiving weekend and last weekend.
The Literary and Musical Club met at Mrs. Nora Dunham's home for a health day program. Members shared health posters and first aid tips, with Mrs. Ww. W. Southwick presenting on communicable diseases among school children and Mrs. E. L. York demonstrating first aid. Mrs. T. M. Sawyer closed with a piano solo. sixteen members and two visitors attended. next meeting will be in two weeks with Mrs. M. T. Tostenson.
