Death and Burial of Former Resident Ivan Harrison

Ivan R. Harrison, 38, a former Marshall county resident who served in the 80th engineers gas and flame division in France during World War I, died at his farm south of Newburg after a week with pneumonia. He is survived by his widow, two children, his father, a sister, and a half brother. Funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Newburg with military honors, burial in Newbury cemetery.

Green Mountain Ball Thrillers See-Saw in Twin Games

Tuesday night at Green Mountain featured two tight ball games between girls and boys. LeGrand won both contests with the girls 82 to 31 and the boys 35 to 84, delivering a see-saw battle from start to finish.

Dover Friends records reveal ancestor line from Beane family

Thanksgiving Gatherings Dot a Busy Iowa Town

Local notes list visits and family gatherings across multiple households during Thanksgiving. Guests include Olen Irons and Witzells in Garwin, Ruth Olson in Cedar Rapids, and many relatives from Marshalltown Cedar Falls Tama Toledo and beyond. Several households hosted kin from Des Moines Chicago Omaha and other towns, with extended family meals and reunions noted.

Miss Betty Gaunt daughter of Mr and Mrs W M Gaunt LeGrand and Archie L Smaha son of Mr and Mrs Will Smaha Green Mountain were married at 2 30 Sunday at the Congregational church Green Mountain with Rev H S Mills officiating. Attendants were Miss Wilma Gaunt Montour and Max Smaha Green Mountain. The bride wore wine silk and carried carnations and roses. Mrs Smaha a 1986 LeGrand high school graduate has worked in Marshalltown and Le Grand. Mr Smaha a Green Mountain high school 1931 graduate has farmed and now works at D K Gettle store Green Mountain. They will live in LeGrand after a short wedding trip.

WCTU December Meeting Set for December 6

The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union will hold its regular December meeting on Tuesday the 6th at 2 p.m. Mrs. Kate Sanders will be present, with Mrs. Prrisho and Mrs. Peak in charge. Gifts for the Benedict Home should be brought at this time.

Pre-Nuptia Shower for Mrs Gaunt Hosts Betty’s Wedding

Mrs W M Gaunt hosted a Friday evening pre nuptial shower at the R N hall for her daughter Betty who wed on Sunday November 27. About 65 guests attended with gifts exchanged and several games and balloon messages shared. Refreshments followed, served by the hostess and family with several out of town visitors noted plus college students home for Thanksgiving and local teachers and relatives visiting in the area.

LeGrand Friends Church announces services and activities

Leonard E. Sunday services at Christian Church with Sarah M. Piper

The Christian Church invites all to attend with Minister Sarah M. Piper leading a 10am church school session and an 11am preaching service. A prayer meeting is held every Wednesday at 8 o'clock evening as part of the church’s outreach.

Sunday School starts at 10 a m with Mrs Jerome Lunde as superintendent. Services follow at 11 a m. Christian Endeavor meets at 7 30 p m and Evening Services conclude the day. The monthly business meeting occurs on the last Tuesday evening.

LeGrand Elevator Co change of ownership on Thursday

Business change occurred Thursday December first with Bertram Sawyer and Carl Tow taking ownership of LeGrand Elevator Co replacing Jesse Tow and M. T. Tostenson. The note adds local Thanksgiving visits and dinners from Ozark Missouri to LeGrand and surrounding households including the Rhodes, Dunham, Goecke and Weitzell families.

Quaint Friends Meeting Wedding in LeGrand

Maxine Hoover daughter of Clyde and Margaret Hoover and Ercil Beane son of Charles and Edna Beane wed at the Friends meeting house in LeGrand in a ceremony guided by the Quaker tradition. The event featured prayers by Oscar W. Johnson, music by Mrs. L. E. Johnson, and songs by John Watland of Chicago. Attendants included Esther Hoover and Donald Beane with ushers Kenneth Hoover and Ernest Beane. A reception followed at the bride’s home on Quaker Lane.

Family gathers at Ferneau home for Thanksgiving

Mr and Mrs Harry Ferneau hosted a Thanksgiving family gathering at their home. Present were Mr and Mrs Leon Levien and two children of Sib ley, Mr and Mrs Wyman Stanford and children of Toledo, Mr and Mrs Clark Ferneau of Montour, and Darold Ferneau of Dus buque. The Levien family and children stayed over the weekend.
