Paul Smiths New York Arthur Rule general manager of Federated Fruit and Vegetable Growers asked President Coolidge during two conferences to extend agricultural credit. He argued a big fruit crop this fall would be cheaper for consumers if growers could market all produce instead of letting apples and peaches rot. He proposed loans to fruit and vegetable growers through intermediate credit banks and agricultural credit associations during production, similar to loans used for fattening cattle. The president did not commit but will consider, noting support for adequate farmer credit. Rule said only 20 percent of growers are in cooperatives or organized.

U S Cyclops World’s Largest Bombing Plane Christened

The U S Army service plane Cyclops was christened at Half-Deland Airplane Co in Bristol near Philadelphia. Claimed as the world’s largest bomber with 825 horsepower, 17,000 pounds weight, and an 8 hour cruise while carrying 4,000 pounds of bombs. It speeds 135 mph and features two machine guns, one above and one below, with the lower gun on a movable platform.

Trio Identified in Hail Farm Slaying Arraignment

In Somerville New Jersey Willie Stevens Benny Carpender and another man were sent back to jail after arraignment identifications tied them to the old Phillips farm where Rev Edward W Hall and Mrs Eleanor Mills were slain. Stevens is the weak minded brother of Frances Stevens Hall widow of the slain rector and she is also charged. Carpender a Wall Street broker is her cousin. Mrs Gibson had earlier identified Mrs Hall bending over the bodies.
