Dead brother carried by lightning survivor reaches Tucson

Alfred Villa arrived in Tucson after driving forty miles with his dead brother killed by a lightning strike. The surviving boy is paralyzed, able to use only one hand. Eloper Caught and Youth Hangs Himself

Fonda reports 21 year old farmer Herman Shuman and 16 year old niece Miss Bessie Shuman eloped to wed. They were captured at Arnold's park after a disputed escape. Shuman hanged himself with his belt in the city jail before trials in Storm Lake. Both families were well respected.

Wildcat sighted near Monticello Iowa farm

Thomas Martin, while repairing a fence on his farm near Monticello, stirred up a wildcat that slunk away toward a nearby cave. The animal had been seen twice before by local children driving cattle home from pasture.

State Board Sells Anti-toxin At Cost

The state board of health sent its first consignment of anti toxin for diphtheria treatment at cost to Dr. A P Hanchatte of Council Bluffs. The cost is about one third the retail price. The board hopes to pass a law next session to let it furnish anti toxin free to the public. Uncle Sam’s payments to Des Moines workers topped $26,000 for July.

Iowa crop prospects and state fair plans outlined

A statewide crop report by Dr. George M. Chappel projects corn at 90.5 percent of average, better than the ten year Aug 1 average, with spring wheat oats and barley in improved condition. Hay and potatoes fall short of last year, while frost may yield no apple crop. Mammoth Exhibition Planned at State Fair Grounds

Arrangements are complete at the fair grounds for a mammoth display of game birds and fish common to Iowa, to run during the state fair from August 25 to September 2. Dr Edwin Schenck of Des Moines becomes professor of theory and practical skin diseases at the State University College of Medicine in Iowa City. William Wood, cited for selling tobacco to a minor, received a ten dollar fine in Police court.
