Fairfax Votes Yes in Cedar Rapids Power Franchise Election

In Fairfax Iowa 92 residents, 85 percent of registered voters, cast unanimous ballots to renew a 25 year franchise with Iowa Electric Light and Power Company of Cedar Rapids. It marked the first time in the utility's 56 years that every vote was yes.

Health Board Urges Swimmers To Stay Out When Nasal Infections Run

Iowa health officials warn nasal infections spread via water. Infected swimmers risk transferring germs to others and themselves, potentially causing ear and sinus infections or pneumonia. Sudden Death of Peter Lunde in Quarry Area

Peter Lunde longtime Quarry resident died at his home at 3 a.m. Wednesday after a two week illness from pneumonia. Born June 8 1872 on Aami Island near Norway he came to Marshalltown at 17, later lived in Quarry State Center Wat kins and finally returned to Quarry last September. Survived by widow six children and one brother. Funeral services Friday at 10 a.m. Estes funeral home with Rev L T Hibbs officiating. burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Centennial State Fair Adds Grand Centennial Exposition

Plans for over 200 acres at the Iowa State Fair opening August 24 reveal major centennial exhibits. Highlights include 19th and 20th century farm implements, pioneer rooms, a fashion show, a transportation display, relics, Iowa livestock history, a large agricultural mural, and a national livestock show valued at over a million dollars. Officials say it will be the greatest exposition in state history with record attendance expected.

Farewell Social For Rev and Mrs Hinshaw

A goodly crowd at the Friends church on Wednesday evening said farewell to Rev and Mrs Hinshaw who are soon leaving for a new field of work. An impromptu program included singing Jed by Mrs Lyle Johnson and piano by Mrs W M Gaunt. Rev Arthur Richards spoke, with a response from Rev Hinshaw. Refreshments of cookies and fruit drink were served in the basement.
