The town recalls a historic light company project and notes a franchise vote due next Thursday August 18. Citizens will decide granting the company the right to operate for another 25 years amid hopes for unanimous approval after changes to the rate.
In Fairfax Iowa 92 residents, 85 percent of registered voters, cast unanimous ballots to renew a 25 year franchise with Iowa Electric Light and Power Company of Cedar Rapids. It marked the first time in the utility's 56 years that every vote was yes.
Iowa health officials warn nasal infections spread via water. Infected swimmers risk transferring germs to others and themselves, potentially causing ear and sinus infections or pneumonia. Staying out or swimming alone is advised, particularly in non sanitary waters. only sanitary, chlorinated pools lessen risk. Elroy Bigelow family from Chicago and sister Laverne Bigelow of Binghamton visited L E Bigelow. Harry Weitzell recalled 17 years as Dunbar Elevator manager and renewed subscription. Rev Arthur A Richards and wife from Franklin NH visiting relatives in Kalamazoo Chicago and will stay with family this month. Oliver Rosdale brought wheat heads from Rosdale farm near Draper Iowa. 127 acres, 15 to 25 bushels per acre. Draper west of Missouri. Murdo next town.

Peter Lunde longtime Quarry resident died at his home at 3 a.m. Wednesday after a two week illness from pneumonia. Born June 8 1872 on Aami Island near Norway he came to Marshalltown at 17, later lived in Quarry State Center Wat kins and finally returned to Quarry last September. Survived by widow six children and one brother. Funeral services Friday at 10 a.m. Estes funeral home with Rev L T Hibbs officiating. burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

An impromptu program included singing Jed by Mrs Lyle Johnson and piano by Mrs W M Gaunt. Rev Arthur Richards spoke, with a response from Rev Hinshaw. Refreshments of cookies and fruit drink were served in the basement.
A booklet titled Collembola from Yucatan Caves with Bozeman Montana postmark is attributed to Harlow B. Mills of Montana Agricultural College. The reviewer notes six new Collembola species described and illustrated, praising Mills for his scientific achievement despite interest in other fossils. Mrs. R.
