Washington Letter from LeGrand reports family moves and health, a Philippine posting, and returns from travels. Local notices include sales ads, farm wants, and upcoming church cancellation. A long-distance bicyclist passing through town is noted, plus apple sample crates from sprayed orchards and a health column on colds and remedies.
Office of the Clerk of the District Court in Marshall County Iowa notifies all to appear at the Marshalltown courthouse at 9:00 a m on August 17 1920 to prove and probate the will alleged to be that of William R Atkinson late of Marshall County deceased Judge G W Gilbert seals the document and signs the notice with the court seal dated August 71 1920
Marshall County district court requests all persons to appear on August 24, 1920 to prove and probate the testament of John J. Zimmeman deceased. Mrs Mary E Gibson wife of Thos G Gibson died after a four week illness at 5 15 AM at her mother Mrs Sarah Ann Duncan's home She was born August 28 1864 in LeGrand and lived there lifelong Survived by husband son Harry and siblings D M Duncan R H Duncan Mrs E G Hanson and Mrs D W Beechout A daughter Goldie died in 1916 Funeral to be held Sunday at 2 PM from the Christian church
Wilhau Halverson & Co purchased Sloan and Son's grocery and hardware stock at LeGrand and will operate two stores. One at 4018 Center St Marshalltown managed by S Wilhau and Is A Halverson, the other at Sloan e Son's old LeGrand stand managed by O A Hougland and H E Halverson. Patronage is invited and appreciated.
Geo Hines of Marshalltown spent Thursday with his son F F Hines. Geo Brown spent a day with C H Hanlin. Mrs Bessie Jackson visited Mrs L Le Taylor. Dan Bond tends separator south of Montour. Amy Asher visited her parents Evans. Evans, F F Hines and A Sloan visited Des Moines. Charles Hanlin family spent Tuesday in Marshalltown. The funeral of Mrs Rebecca O Neal was held Tuesday at 10 AM at the house.

Over Sunday visits include Mr and Mrs Alfred Sloan in Des Moines and Jens Jensen family from Oska loosa visiting Mrs Flora Sharp. Various social calls and a funeral notice from LeGrand about Lee Helfenstein. Modern Woodmen meeting called for Aug 7 at Masonic hall. Missionary Society meeting at the Christian church discussed Christian Americanization.
Rebecca O Neal, 76, long-time Le Grand resident, died Sunday at 11 15 am at her sister Mrs A A Moores home after a weeklong illness of pneumonia and heart trouble. Born Rebecca Dunn Sept 2 1844 in Warren County Ohio she came to Iowa in 1855. She married James O Neal Feb 18 1885 and lived in Le Grand until 1898 then returned to the farm. Funeral at Pleasant Hill Cemetery Tuesday at 11 am with Rev J W Piper and Rev P E Shalt officiating. Burial followed with pallbearers and floral attendants named. Distance relatives included Mrs Sidney Brown of Chicago and others from Marshalltown and Chicago.
The district court of Iowa in Marshall county September term 1520 hears a petition by Janes E. Gallup and co plaintiffs against multiple defendants claiming ownership of lots ten through sixteen in block five Liscomb. The filing names numerous heirs and claimants in various capacities and requests adjudication of ownership and rights in the described real estate. The defendants named and unnamed are notified that the petition is filed in the clerk’s office of the Marshall county court.
Rev Frans D Asawa leads Sunday School at 10 oclock with J Y Rylander as superintendent. Morning worship at 11. Junior G E meets at 2 30 with Miss Jessie Manship as superintendent. P S C E meets at 6 30 with Lois Rylander as president. Evening preaching at 8 00. Prayer meeting Wednesday evening at 7 30.
In Marshall county Iowa on September 6 1920 a district court in Lowain Marshall county will hear a petition by Christien Church and others seeking to quiet and confirm title to real estate. The suit asserts twenty years of actual open notorious exclusive uninterrupted peaceable adverse possession under color of title and requests an order decreeing ownership to the plaintiff and barring all defendants from any interest. Defendants are notified to appear by noon of the second day of the next September term or face default and judgment.
