A new rock crushing plant is operating at the quarry one-half mile north LeGrand mill. Rock is available by the ton, yard, or carload. Inquiries may be directed to LeGrand Central or Philip Cozzi, R-F-D. 7, Marshalown.
A county seat caller and many visitors are listed from LeGrand and nearby towns. Residents borne to and from visits include Jos. Prusha, A. L. Moore, L. G. Howard, Clark Bowen, Rebecca Rugg, Rachel McCarel, and others. A postponed double header due to grain harvest is noted along with Max Mills' head injury and quick recovery.
Surprising traffic growth along the Lincoln Highway shows overland touring expanding rapidly from Philadelphia to Nebraska. Tourists praise the road quality and scenery, noting well-kept, wide dirt roads, thriving hotels, and growing garages as coast to coast travel gathers momentum. Local mentions include Sious City residents Lulu Byram and Ella Cronk visiting Cedar Rapids relatives, and bicyclist Harold N. Baker aiming for Frisco by October. An emery wheel incident injures Dan Bruckbacher, and another worker breaks a left arm last weekend.
Mrs. Fannie Mertka, 71, wife of Anton Mertka and longtime Quarry resident, died after a paralytic stroke. Born in Bohemia April 24, 1844, she emigrated with her husband and lived in Quarry for forty years. Survived by husband, son Louis, four daughters, and two half brothers. Funeral held from the home with burial in Pleasant Hill cemetery. Also memorial verses published in the Times-Republican.
The annual church meeting of the Christian church will be held Aug 12, 1915. Program includes song selected invocation readings by Bessie McGarel Mrs S R Piper and Mrs P M Paulson roll call of members and annual election of church and Sunday School officers. LeGrand visitors Martin Rubenbauer family of Dillon and various local acquaintances noted. a farewell gathering for Rev and Mrs G R Hammond at the Christian parsonage ended with thanks and gifts.
Rev A J Hanson pastor preaches at 11 and leads Sunday School at 10. Intermediate Endeavor 7 pm led by Mrs Pemberton. Junior Endeavor Wednesday 4 pm led by Eunice Arnold. Senior Endeavor Sunday 7 pm chaired by Teadera Clyde Hoover and A J Hanson. Evening service 8 pm with Wednesday prayer meeting at 3 pm. Welcome to all to attend these services.
Christian Church notices list Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. led by Rev. J. W. Piper, morning service at 11:00, intermediate and senior Endeavor services at 7:00 p.m., Miss Mantie Wells to lead the Junior Endeavor, evening service at 8:00, prayer meeting Wednesday evening, and a teachers training class Thursday evening. A welcome is extended to our parishioners.
Carlton Brethres Church services and a special English language talk by Arthur Torgerson from St Olaf College at Marshalltown. Dunbar Ladies Aid meets August 11 with lecture on The First Ladies Aid Society in Norway. Local visitors include Garnet Arnold Hope Hobbs Lois Roberts and others.
