Seven cars of livestock loaded Monday for the Chicago market include five cattle and two hogs. The shipment, billed by L. E. Johnson, traveled from Quarry yards with Chas. G. Johnson J. B. Rylander and L. E. Johnson as escort.
Troop No. 11 LeGrand closes its charter year with 16 of 20 boys advancing at least once. Eleven earned 54 Merit Badges, three Stars and two Life Scouts. three Eagle Scouts may follow soon. New members and leadership changes noted as the Troop plans for the new year.
A local hardware ad announces a tire sale starting Saturday August 6 for one week only. United States Tires and Tubes priced cash and sold while supplies last, with a standard tire warranty on every tire and tube.
The annual alumni meeting led by Mrs. E. L. Condon of Marshalltown will be held at Friends Church with Bible School at 10 am and junior and senior Endeavor sessions in the evening. A union service at the Christian church follows at 8 pm with a long public equate service at 9 pm. Strangers and visitors are welcome at all services.
The Christian Church schedule includes morning church school led by Mrs. Mary Higginbotham and an illustrated junior church talk on What Can Take Away My Sins. Morning sermon series covers Five Looks in Romans. Evening union service features Miss Margaret Mollinger speaking and an offering taken. Prayer Circle midweek with business meeting follows. social highlights note missionary circle meeting with readings and prayers, Young People’s Club ice cream social successes thanked.
Strand Lutheran Church Dunbar will conduct services at 11 a m Sunday August 7 led by Rev J E Lea. The L T L plans its August meeting at Friends church next Wednesday August 10 from 2 pm. Rev and Mrs Homer G Biddle jcums attended Young Friends Conference at Penn College July 29 to August 7. L T L silver medal contest August 2 at Friends Church Ruth Adair won first prize with Tom Tom and His Tune Truman Rosdale took second with The Knights of L T L. prizes awarded for all performances.
Tourists report a dead body east of town to Mayor Keen who contacts Dr Mills. Mag nors Holland and Raymond Beans search for the corpse but Marvin Tow says the man collapsed from heart trouble and was helped by a passerby. Magnus doubts a new dodge to gain rides.
Local notice reports two slow signs placed near the Flora Sharp and Corney Leech properties to warn motorists near the school grounds. Made by W. M. Gaunt per the school board order. Also notes birth of a baby boy to Mr. and Mrs. Cleo Leech on Monday July 25, with local curiosity about prior omission.
Chicago & North Western Railway offers round trip excursion tickets to Cedar Rapids during August 9 to 11 at 1 cent per mile with $1 minimum and return within one day. An August 6 to 13 option provides 1.5 times one way fare with return by August 15. Tickets via agents.
