State Fair Military Exhibit Opens at 1939 Iowa Fair
The army navy and national guard will present a large tent exhibit west of the Varied Industries building detailing defenses readiness. Displays include .50 caliber and .30 caliber machine guns, rifles, mortars, gas masks, helmets, tanks, planes, depth bombs, ambulances, and field equipment with soldiers to explain items to visitors. The W C T U held its annual meeting Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Lauretta Turbett hosting. Members sang Let the Lower Lights Be Burning and heard devotionals from Mrs Piper on Isaiah 26 and St Peter 1. A bake sale was set for Saturday Aug 5 at Turbett's store. Officers elected include Peer Beane as President and Della Richards as Treasurer with Cora Hoover as Secretary and Lauretta Turbett as Corresponding Secretary and Pub Com.
