Two Elderly People Have Close Gall
Mr and Mrs W. Kellogg suffered a sharp curve collision on the Lincoln highway near Eldora while returning from Marshalltown. Their Ford and an Indiana Chevrolet cabriolet collided. Mrs Kellogg was badly hurt and later thought to be internally injured while Mr Kellogg aided her and survived groggily. They were taken to LeGrand for care and a funeral occurred for a relative in Eldora. The Indiana car occupants were uninjured and continued on. Mrs Kellogg’s condition improved modestly by Thursday.

The July Le Grand Garden Club meeting at Mr. and Mrs. J F Rylander home drew good attendance. Mrs Simms spoke on flower culture from a new Flowers magazine. A light quiz titled with eight flower based questions provided amusement, with Sunflower Bluebell Four oclock Dandelion Tiger Lily Bachelor's Button Goldenrod and Snowball as answers. Mrs Ida Merritt of Highland Neb visited with Mr and Mrs Lasson.

Locals stood by the Davidson memorial boulder as Mr A A Piddington explained his party includes Mrs Piddington and Misses Janet Schnur and Alice Mathews. They are business partners of Harry Hammond and were returning from the Century of Progress trip seeking photos and souvenirs. They visited Reed farm to photograph the George Hammond home where Harry was born and spoke with Corney Leech, Harry Hammond’s first cousin.

Increased Budget Hearings For 1934 County
County Supervisors and auditor J E Soderquist traveled to Des Moines on Monday to seek state approval for higher millage than allowed under a new law. A hearing on the 1934 budget is set for August 7. Relief costs have overdrawn by over $13,000 as of June 30 and as much as $123,078 may be needed for the poor fund. Total county expenses projected at $579,383 with $485,525 to be raised by taxation due to bank holds and S F 111 constraints.

Hiram Hammond and His Gristmill of LeGrand
Early settlers recall Hiram Hammond’s kindly smile at the LeGrand gristmill on the Iowa river.
