Road improvements make headway in LeGrand area

Progress on town streets and county roads is marked by gravelling from the quarry north of town to the depot, with 170 loads spread. The Hilléman outfit finished grading to the Walter Reed farm gate and north to the Iowa river bridge, while town streets around the square and church are being prepared for finishing rock. New Bridge Over Missouri River Planned Near Here

Work to start soon on a Missouri River bridge near Des Moines. three main spans with the center 62 feet above low water, 24 foot roadway, located about 200 feet south of the Chicago and North Western bridge. A railways dispute delayed start. project aims to shorten the Lincoln highway by 26 miles and finish by about May 1, 1929.

LeGrand Community Club plans Marshall County 75th event

A Monday meeting at LeGrand town hall outlined LeGrand's role in Marshall County's 75th Anniversary. Committee chairs were named including Finance O W Johnson, Historical Float W M Gaunt, Commercial Float A J Lud wig, Relics B H Beane, Pageant Mrs Maude Gaunt, Woman's Day Mrs A A Piper, Sports R L Pemberton, Old Residents and Pictures A L Beane, Publicity Corwin O'Neal and Rev and Mrs G W Harvey with children. Several locals arrived home from travels and a group enjoyed a picnic at Shady Oaks park before visiting Pine Lake near Eldora.

LeGrand Takes Albions Measure In Split Contest

LeGrand swept Albion for five runs in the fifth inning and added more in later frames as Gaunt pitched well until fielding miscues by Albion. Grace held up until costly errors sparked LeGrand, with key hits from Gaunt and Smaha. Albion showed promise despite the setback, Grace lasting until two fluke plays and muffed chances doomed the defense.
