LeRoy Grimes of Green Mountain sustained a severe head laceration and brain concussion in a head-on crash with Melvin Harders of Gladbrook on a recently graveled Gladbrook Lincoln detour. Harders had a broken jaw. Grimes regained consciousness hours later, with recovery seen as likely.

Missionary Circle Meeting Highlights Red Cross Program

State Health Exhibit at State Fair Highlights Infant Care

Lightning Damages Trees in Storm Hit Northwest Yard
A Sunday night storm produced a blinding flash and thunder that unsettled residents. State Fair Dance Orchestras to Play Daily Aug 23 to 30
Five nationally known dance orchestras and radio stars will perform at open air dances each night of the exposition from August 23 to 30. A large dance floor is being built on the state fair plaza to host 3,000 to 4,000 couples nightly. Acts include Johnny Scat Davis with his Hollywood orchestra, Paul Pendavis, Anson Weeks and NBC orchestra, Griff Williams Sweet Rhythm orchestra, and Louis Armstrong and his Harlem jazz vocalists heading the lineup. They will not appear on the grandstand program, but solely on the plaza for evening dances.
