Falling Meteor Lights Eastern Sky Thursday Night

A spectacular meteor lit the eastern sky about 10 o'clock last Thursday. Witnesses described a blue green light as bright as a full moon, with the meteor traveling north at a low angle of about thirty degrees. The town’s astronomy professor seeks further details to identify the visitor and obtain a fragment.

Death of Frank Hayes in LeGrand community

Friends report the death of Frank Hayes at State University hospital Iowa City due to diabetes. Hayes born February 18 1887 in Tama county lived in LeGrand most recently six years. Survived by widow Edith Merritt five children and three brothers. Funeral held at Pursel's funeral home with burial at Pleasant Hill LeGrand. Community notices include bake sale and social events from Friends church and local residents.

Newton Camp Fun Ends As Boys Depart

About forty boys have enjoyed privileges at Newton Camp this past week and gave the town a lively impression. Thursday morning they said goodbye and returned home, followed by a contingent of thirty eight girls from Newton with leaders led by Miss Evra Scotten of the YWCA.
