A call to repair and build to boost recovery details construction employs over a million workers directly and another million in supply industries. Home building, now scarce, accounts for half of the construction sector. Acting now yields value at lower current cost than in the future.
C W Kellogg offers a piece of walnut timber from his father's early log house on the Kelloge place. The walnut has been aged for T1 years and Chauncey has the sample for inspection to show how walnut wood withstands time. Calvin Kellogg, Chauncey’s reference, is noted.
The April PTA gathering is set for Tuesday evening April 10 at 7 30 in the high school auditorium. The grades will present the program and families are asked to bring one dozen cupcakes and cups for their own use.
The W C U met with Mrs. John Rylander Tuesday with a vocal duet by Mrs. Katherine Buchanan and Miss Eleanor Russell, accompanied by Miss Wilma Gaunt. Eleven members and four guests attended. a general discussion followed. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dunham visited Mt. Pleasant Monday night and returned Wednesday. New arrivals Mrs Elizabeth Mote and Mr and Mrs J S Hollingworth arrived to spend the summer on North Webster Street. Chas Lange and two sons Leonard and Charles moved from Chicago to a new home Monday and are settling in. the writer welcomes them and hopes the boys join high school soon.

Charles O Neal Sumner visited parents Corwin O Neal. Mrs Brown Gilman visited sister Mrs Liga Omundson. Orval Adair family from Carlton area visited C B Adair. Merle Frundle and son Richard visited Jesse Tow for Master Sunday dinner. Mrs J M Gaunt improved and resumed duties. Fitzgeralds vacated Clinton street for Marshalltown. John Rylander family and Glenn Sloat family visited Muscatine to see Carl Rylander, county Farm Bureau agent. Lance Oakes, son of Lee Oakes, discharged from hospital after appendicitis. will miss schooling rest of year. Harlow Mills of Ames stopped by. doctor’s thesis nearing completion. likely PhD soon.

Former LeGrand resident Rev. James E. Ball now serves Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lyndale and 14th, Minneapolis. He visited LeGrand midweek, noting his ninth year at the church while sharing that his sister Kate Ball lives on a Kansas acreage near Lebanon. Ball recalled his LeGrand college days and the lasting influence of local mentors.

Sophomore party Monday night April 2 featured volleyball and refreshments by Ethel Rhodes, Evelyn Tune, and Lucille Lawrence.
Christian Church announces 10 a.m. Church School with Mrs M Gaunt as Superintendent and a service of worship at 2 p.m. A welcome here for all.
The Friends church presented an Easter program at 2 o clock broadcast on KFYJB sponsored by Iowa Electric Light and Power. Performances included Song He Arose, piano solo, Easter Morning exercise, Calvary anthem, address by the pastor, and various vocal and instrumental pieces. Town CCC camps mobilized 22 troops for a five week reforestation drive to plant trees in gullies as erosion control ends.
The Reporter family spent a Sunday outing visiting quarries north of town and inspecting Marshall and Poweshiek county plants. They traveled miles of new stone roads built by C W A workers, noted crinoids, and planned further trips to Gladbrook Garwin and Green Mountain. Local residents Mrs. Ida Merritt and others were mentioned with visits and birthdays, ending with homeward travel from LeGrand to Marshalltown.
