Dallas man apologizes for Chattanooga bank burglary
A 20 year old Donald Eugene Staggs of Dallas sent a letter and a $240 cashier’s check to First National Bank of Chattanooga in repayment for the April 21, 1955 burglary. The draft, drawn on Republican National Bank of Dallas, was accompanied by an apology from Staggs through Joseph L. Bauman of Irving Texas. The bank will forward funds to St Paul Mercury Indemnity Co. as reimbursement. Staggs has also faced federal trial in Dallas for another burglary and received five year sentences on each count.

Patrol Probe To Resume In City Hotel Friday
The Lawton hearing site in the Highway Patrol investigation was moved to the Hotel Lawtonian ballroom to allow more attendees. Oklahoma City district judge W A Carlile ordered Safety Commissioner Jim Lookabaugh to restore Patrolman Norman Holt to captain or face court on October 3, with a mandamus writ first action in the petition filed after the Supreme Court declined jurisdiction. If Holt is not restored, the hearing will decide whether Lookabaugh can demote Holt without a patrol board hearing. Dr Charles Green of the Better Government Committee announced the site change after conferring with Sen Kirksey Nix, who approved the move to a larger accessible venue. The ballroom was reserved at no cost for Friday and Saturday to accommodate attendees.

Coney Island Fire Kills 8 In Early Morning Blaze
Eight people died and at least twelve were injured when a five alarm fire swept through a row of old Coney Island residences near the beach. Police said a boarding house was gutted and the blaze appeared suspicious with arson under immediate investigation by Fire Commissioner Edward Cavanagh.

Gen Horton to End Long Army Career
