Judge postpones Virginia schools integration deadline
Federal Judge Albert Bryan delayed the deadline for admitting seven Black children to Arlington County's all white schools. The Arlington school board sought a stay during an appeal to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. The judge noted potential harm if a stay is not allowed and affirmed belief that Black students cannot be banned from white schools. Arlington officials and Black parents argued for and against the stay as records from NAACP branches were ordered for delivery by 10 am.
