Wheat payment rule dispute and DES findings in agriculture
Butz acknowledged McGovern's claim that wheat payments under the July to November formula may shrink due to higher market prices. NAWG and farm groups push Congress to fix the gap, potentially adding 20 to 25 million dollars to early sellers. DES contamination in steer livers rises to 79 cases since January with a 2.4 percent rate in 3,239 samples. FDA bans DES in animal feed starting next January 1, though direct implants would be permitted.
