Prices Paid Index Signals Mixed Farm Costs In August
The Agriculture Department reports the prices farmers pay fell 0.5 percent in August from July 15 while overall farm costs remained about 6 percent higher than a year earlier. Declines in livestock feed and feeder livestock partly offset higher prices for building materials and clothing. Butter and cheese outputs dipped versus June, with July butter at 72.4 million pounds and cheese at 189 million, while poultry data was delayed due to a computer issue.
