The Lawton City Council passes Ordinance No. 67 amending sewer charges to set a minimum 3000 gallons per month for each user classifying hotels motels and rooming houses as commercial and declaring an emergency. It details rate schedules exemptions and senior and occupancy reductions with administrative procedures and penalties.
Two Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officers plan a horseback search in the High Uintas after multiple hikers reported a Bigfoot sighting in August and earlier in June and near Mt. Baldy. They will use cameras and look for tracks rather than capture the creature.
The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board may adjourn hearings on the Black Fox nuclear station near Tulsa if Public Service Co. of Oklahoma has not signed a water contract with the City of Tulsa by September 9. City commissioners plan to hear the proposed contract that same day. Opposition groups have urged a halt to the water deal after years of negotiations.
New York authorities debated psychiatric findings as David Berkowitz, the so called Son of Sam, was described as emotionally dead. The move to appoint a prosecution psychiatrist followed sealed court records and a hearing date set for October 12. Police say Berkowitz killed six and wounded seven in three boroughs. He invited Daily News columnist Jimmy Breslin to his Kings County Hospital home in a letter.
